Over the past weekend, I took the kids to one of the Chinese restaurants in the city. This was a restaurant that used to be very well run by this amazing Chinese woman, the food was good and the place was packed. There was an ownership change somewhere along the line and it has declined in both the quality food as well as service. During dinner, there was a waitress, who did not have a great handle on the English language (not as a criticism). She was struggling with taking the orders and running around changing the table settings. The manager was this man, that was so abrasively mean to her and over-bearing in front of everyone in the restaurant. It was a little heart-breaking to me. I feel like we see this kind of thing over and again, and usually just turn a blind eye since we can not do anything about it and it doesn’t really effect our lives. I was struggling with what to do about it, besides be extra nice to her when she brought the food or had questions. So when the bill came, I just stared at it and thought what can help this person. So I put the tip on my credit card and put five bucks on the the top. I made eye contact with her specifically and when she came over to get the bill folder from me, I quietly said that the money was for her. She quickly put the money in her pocket and said thank you and brought the bill folder over to the counter. I am not saying that I am magnanimous or anything, in retrospect, I should have given her twenty dollars. But I am saying that there are so many injustices all around us, that we pay no attention to and we stay in our little bubble. We can not fix all problems but we also can not turn away from them either. While I stared down at that bill folder, I let my lower intuition, the one in my belly give me answer of what to do.. and it said “give her extra money!” It was not like five dollars is really going to make that much of a difference in her life, it was more that I saw what was happening with her and I acknowledged it. She knew that I saw her and she appreciated that as much as the money. I think that in a world where there is so much corruptive manipulation of our perception, we probably do not even know how to tell what we know as truth from external falsity. That deep knowing sense in our lower bellies, that knows the truth. But it has to have enough space in our crazy monkey minds to be heard and once heard it has to be obeyed. It is the force of the feminine energy long since ignored and stuffed away and it wants to have a voice now. It is the time to listen and respect that powerful rumbling messages down deep inside all of us. The messages of truth and respect for the environment that surrounds us.
