“If people bring so much courage to the world the world has to kill them to break them, so of course it kills them. The world breaks everyone and afterwards many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.”
Ernest Hemingway
A Farewell to Arms
I quoted this in my high school yearbook, albeit erroneously. It is rather a dark quote but I do think the brave are taking a bigger risk than the cowards. The climate is such that the brave voices are needed more than ever before, so I encourage you to speak up. I can only make the assumption that Ernest Hemingway felt himself to be one of courage or else he would not have written this passage. History loves to repeat itself, we can have an influence on the cycles if we are motivated.
